I was little, perhaps just 10 or 11 when I was married and then three years later I moved to my husband’s house. At 14 I gave birth to my son. My husband went away for work and there he found another wife and brought her home. I was working in my father’s field when an artist from the JWDC, Remani, passed by on her bicycle. I had never painted before but Remani brought me to the JWDC and the women taught me to paint. Then I could afford to rent some rooms in Janakpur. For a long time I lived alone because my son was in jail. After I paid to get him out, he married a young woman who can help me with cooking and cleaning. I still pay all the bills for the three of us from my painting income.
